LAGOS STATE SAFTEY COMMISSION SEALS OFF CRANE ACCIDENT SITE, LAUNCHES INVESTIGATION

The Lagos State Safety
Commission has sealed Monterosa Construction site following a serious crane
incident which occurred at the site involving crane operations at 7:30a.m.
In a release signed by Mrs. Adewunmi Okoh, DD, Public Affairs of the Lagos State Safety Commission, preliminary investigation from officials of the Commission who promptly arrived at the site reveals that the crane operator, one Mr. Rotimi Adesina sustained fatal injuries during the incident and was transported to Evercare Hospital, Lekki Phase 1, where he later died.
The site’s Health, Safety,
and Environment (HSE) Officer was reported to be attending to the injured
operator at that time and was therefore unavailable for immediate questioning.
According to the Safety
officials, the Project Manager, Mr. Hein Coerzer and the Company Secretary, Mr.
Ndidi Uchechukwu were engaged on account of the incident and to provide
documentation related to the crane, disclosed that all relevant documents are
kept at the company’s Head Office.

The company has been
directed to submit all necessary documentation relating to the crane and
overall project operations for thorough review by the Commission.
The Director General,
Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola directed that the construction site be
sealed with an abatement notice served to eliminate any immediate danger and
protect the lives of all workers on site.
Mojola said safety of
lives is key and on no account should safety precautionary measures be
compromised.
He disclosed that further
updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
The DG, Safety Commission
commiserates with the family of the deceased and assures the public of our
continued commitment to preventing the recurrence of such tragic incidents
through strict enforcement of safety regulations.
