LAGOS STATE SAFETY COMMISSION DEBUNKS BRIBERY ALLEGATION IN VIRAL VIDEO


The attention of the Lagos State Safety Commission has been drawn to a viral video circulating on social media in which one Mariam Bunmi claims to be a staff of the Commission and is alleged to have collected a bribe from unsuspecting members of the public in the Oworonshoki area of Lagos State.

In a release signed by Mrs. Adewunmi Okoh, the Commission’s Director Public Affairs the Commission dissociated itself completely from this individual and her alleged actions. 

“We wish to categorically state that the said Mariam Bunmi is NOT and has never been an employee of the Lagos State Safety Commission. She is unknown to the Commission in any capacity,” she stated.

Continuing, Mrs. Okoh added that the Lagos State Safety Commission's mandate is to ensure safety of lives and property of Lagosians and maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption, extortion, or any form of unethical conducts. 

“We therefore urge members of the public to disregard the claims in the video and to remain vigilant against impostors posing as officials of the Commission,” she emphasized.

“Furthermore, we advise media practitioners, including the platform Lagos Reporters which circulated the said video, to always exercise due diligence by verifying information and confirming official identities before publication.

“For clarification or verification, members of the public are encouraged not to pay a dime to anyone parading as officials of Lagos State Safety Commissionn but to rather apprehend and report such uncharitable act to the Commission through its official channels,” she said.
